Museum Office
On June 11th, 2009 our first building arrived on the property. It will be used as an office until the completion of our museum infrastructure. Board members Brent & Leisha Mullins and Robin Silva were there to welcome Lynn and the crew from C&L Movers who made it possible.
Six months ago the board made two decisions. One was that we needed to put some type of building on the property to use as an office and the other to start building the entrance so that people would know we are serious about our goal of reassembling the USS Iwo Jima and building a museum on the property.
Board Member Steve Hickman filed paperwork in February with the Texas Facilities Commission that we were looking for a building. On June 5th we were notified that there was a building available. They sent us pictures and the emails back and forth started. By Monday the 8th the board had approved the purchase and sent the paperwork. We were notified that all the paperwork was approved and completed on June 10th in the morning - all we had to do was find a mover. Steve hit the phones found a mover and called Robin to finish the arrangements. By the time Robin & Brent finished with Lynn the night of July 10th he had consented to picking up the trailer the next day. Lynn's crew left at dawn and drove to Bon Weir, Texas to pick up the building.
It arrived on the property at 4:30pm.
On the property this is the FIRST(building) a small step towards a very large dream(USS Iwo Jima).
These are the before photos of our new office. Decks, handicap access, landscaping and other amenities will be added. We have reached out to the community and are waiting for approval of a plan that would make the additions an Eagle Scout Project.
